We had already named the show even before we saw Kim’s painting. “It’s Safe To Come In” was in part a joke about the hours of sitting in an empty gallery, being ignored by all the passersby. And it also was meant to express that, if some found the imagery from the Saxon and Pampallona exhibits somewhat disturbing, this show would be lighter fare.

And then Kim showed us her wonderful painting of New Orleans with the floodwaters receding, hinting that life would once more be lived in these streets. And just like the dove signaled to Noah that respite was ahead, the heron in Kim’s painting is a symbol of hope for that beleaguered city, that one day soon it will again be safe to come in.
